These field studies were conducted among commercial fishermen in Newfoundland, Norway, Shetland and Sweden. Although the fishermen work with similar technologies in similar physical environments, they take different decisions with respect to a number of economic and social matters. The essays explore these differences--in work organization, crew formation and maintenance, and information management.
